905% Increase in Narcan Administration Seen in New Hampshire Town

According to the Laconia fire department in New Hampshire, in the past 68 days they have administered 116 doses of Narcan. Compared to this time last year it is a 905% increase. Additionally, they saw 30 overdoses in just over 2 months, meaning that many of those doses of Narcan were used on the same patient. Up to 6 doses can be required to counteract the effects of lethal drugs such as carfentanil.

Narcan, also known as Naloxone, is a medication that is used to block the effects of opioids in the case of an overdose. Narcan has been regarded as a lifesaving tool in the battle against opioid overdoses. Emergency response teams, individuals, and even schools have begun carrying the medication for instances of overdose.

While some believe the overdose antidote to be a life saving drug, others have begun to question if it actually enables addicts to repeatedly overdose on opioids.
